Call for Symposia

The International Societies of Exposure Science (ISES) and Indoor Air Quality and Climate (ISIAQ) are now accepting symposium proposals for the joint meeting “The built, natural, and social environments: impacts on exposures, health and well-being” which will be held in Kaunas, Lithuania during August 18-22, 2019. The deadline for proposal submission is January 4, 2019 and will not be extended.

The 2019 joint meeting integrates exposure science across individual’s or population’s total environment. The aim is to better understand the interactions between these numerous and complex factors affecting human health and well-being. Therefore, this theme is actively incorporated throughout the integrated program.

Please consider how your symposium idea might comprise the conference theme and reflect its interdisciplinary and multi-scale nature, as well as the different communities involved. The four co-chairs (themselves representing the two societies and different disciplines of technology, exposure and building sciences, epidemiology, and risk assessment) would like to encourage creative symposium proposals incorporating three distinct yet interconnected elements, such as:

  • Sources and emissions
  • Concentrations, exposure, hazard, and risk assessment
  • Exposure assessment methods, models, simulation
  • Health, individuals, biomonitoring, and biological response
  • Comfort, productivity, community health and well-being
  • Advancing research/knowledge in an imperfect world: strategies, sampling, statistics
  • Exposure control strategies, practices
  • Perception, communication, policy

PROPOSAL REQUIREMENTS: Symposia will be accepted for three potential session lengths. Formats other than traditional podium presentation are encouraged (if giving presentations they should be between 10-20 min):

  • 60 minute
  • 90 minute, or
  • Half day (three hour total, will not be continuous)

Symposia proposals will be considered and accepted at the discretion of the Technical Organizing Committee. The proposal should address each of the following elements:

  • Symposium topic
  • Symposium organizer name, affiliation, and contact information
  • Symposium abstract (approximately 300 words)
  • Symposium speakers, including:
    – Affiliation
    – Presentation title, and
    – Short description of the presentation (formal abstract will follow at a later date)
  • Relationship to conference theme
  • Relationship between presentations

Symposium proposal acceptance will be based on adherence to the conference theme and quality of the proposed presentations. Only one symposium proposal will be accepted for each participant. We encourage diversity among the presenters such that symposium speakers reflect the diversity of professionals in exposure science and indoor air quality and climate. It is expected that all speakers will have agreed to participate and will register and attend the meeting at their own expense. We kindly ask symposium organizers to produce a short summary of symposium discussions or a joint statement for possible distribution to society members.
